OBEDIENCE
We understand obedience very broadly. From the basic principles that govern a given household/family to competing in obedience championships. Here, we focus on healthy and strong relationships with the dog, routine, and the rules that apply to each of our dogs, which gives them a sense of safety and stability.
The Companion Dog classes have 3 levels of advancement, and at the first level, the dog learns to function in society in a compliant and problem-free manner. These are demanding classes with the possibility of passing internal exams at the school where we learn and/or official exams organized by ZKwP.
Personally, we are not fans of the sport of obedience as it seems a bit too harsh, but we are very interested in rally obedience (rally-o), which from the end of 2025 will be a sport discipline under the patronage of the Kennel Club in Poland, opening up many possibilities.
HERDING
Shepherding is an inseparable part of herding breeds; unfortunately, this activity is rarely cultivated and promoted today, which is a great shame.
We checked Triss's drives in Fixing The Shadow Sheepdogs by Piotr Strzelecki, a trainer and breeder with many years of experience, who is well-known in the community and is the head of the herding section in the Będzin branch of ZKwP to which we belong.
Triss was rated very positively in training, which opened the door for us to further exercises and to learn about the world of shepherding.
In October 2025, thanks to the efforts of the Herding Dog Working Section in ZKwP Katowice, I was able to participate in the NHAT exams.
Triss has passed the NHAT exam with an excellent rating.
We care that miniature American shepherds do not lose their natural herding instincts and their ability to cooperate with humans.
2024 - Triss's Puppy Kindergarten
As loving dog owners, we deeply believe that puppy kindergarten classes greatly help in giving a good start to a puppy's life and later to an adult dog.
We collaborate with individuals who primarily teach using positive methods and build trust and bonds between the dog and its caregiver. It is very important for people to want to establish deep and lasting relationships with their dog, as this is the foundation of a good life as a family member and in society.
During classes, Triss learned to focus among other dogs and people, discovering new places, objects, and activities.
On a daily basis, we established the basic rules that apply in our home, and at puppy kindergarten, we expanded our already acquired skills and gained new ones.
Thanks to these classes, Triss is a brave, cheerful, and open dog who is not afraid to explore the new.
I have always wanted to see what herding looks like from the perspective of a trainer, so after my first experiences with my Shetland Sheepdog, I took Triss to Fixing The Shadow Sheepdogs to try my hand with a miniature American shepherd.
Triss quickly grasped what was going on, and at Mr. Piotr's suggestion, we visited him a few more times before autumn arrived. Slowly, the idea formed in my mind that it would be nice to take the NHAT test with Triss as well.
At the end of 2022, the ZKwP Będzin branch opened a section for herding dog work, led by Piotr Strzelecki, a trainer and breeder with many years of experience. I attended the organizational meeting of the newly formed section, and later we went to training sessions.
In September, ZKwP Katowice and Fixing The Shadow Sheepdogs announced the NHAT, TS/CS, and HWT TS/CS tests, which took place on October 11 and 12.
Triss passed the NHAT test with an excellent rating under difficult weather conditions, which makes me very happy and gives hope for further herding work as soon as time allows.
Year 2025 - the beginning of an adventure - training with Piotr Strzelecki and NHAT exam
Year 2025 - Companion Dog Course - PT1 at HSM Korkus
On March 1, 2025, we started the Companion Dog (PT1) training at HSM Korkus in Katowice.
Under the guidance of experienced instructor Sonia Korkus, who took us under her wing after a socialization walk that showed us areas worth working on since Triss is a very lively puppy and during her rebellious phase it was hard for her to focus among other dogs.
We worked hard and on April 13 we passed the internal PT1 exam with an excellent grade.
In the future, we would like to take the official exams organized by ZKwP, but we still need to practice a few things to get a good grade.
